RiverWood Ecology Ltd. is an independent specialist freshwater ecological consultancy based in Angus, Scotland. Set-up in March 2017 by Director Rachel Whatmore, we aim to offer freshwater environmental consultancy services across the UK.
Rachel Whatmore is a MCIEEM Freshwater Ecologist with over ten years’ experience in both public and private sector freshwater ecological monitoring roles, who started RiverWood Ecology in March 2017. Specialised in aquatic survey, analysis and reporting, she has experience in conducting macroinvertebrate, macrophyte, electric fishing and catchment walkover surveys through her various monitoring and laboratory management roles. Rachel graduated from Cranfield University with an MSc in Environmental Diagnostics and Management and gained experience in a variety of aquatic and ecological surveys around the UK including; macroinvertebrate, lamprey, crayﬁsh, ﬁsheries habitat, RHS, water quality and electric ﬁshing. As a Laboratory Manager for 2 private consultancies. Rachel managed the delivery of several large sample analysis contracts within analytical quality controlled conditions. She is a confident and capable macroinvertebrate taxonomist analysing macroinvertebrate samples to a range of taxonomic levels including TL3 Family Level (WHPT and BMWP) and TL5 WFD Species Level. Rachel has successfully managed, supported and delivered the analysis requirements for many extensive aquatic ecology programmes, encompassing UK airports, the energy generation and construction sectors and a range of UK water companies including Thames Water, Anglian Water and United Utilities.
